A wide variety of people visit Arizona's courthouses each day, including
judges, court employees, jurors, witnesses, attorneys and members of the
public. Many of them have temporary or permanent disabilities, and barriers
to mobility and communication must not impair their access. The Task Force
has conducted a survey of federal and state courthouses throughout Arizona.
Task force members and other volunteers made site visits to personally meet
with key court officials and tour the facilities, to identify accommodations
which have been made and look for solutions to those which still must be
addressed. We were welcomed in this process by court officials in all 14
Arizona counties. To help courthouses learn from one another about ways
in which they have solved their accessibility issues, despite space or budgetary
constraints, we published a report of our findings and distributed it widely
within the legal community. See the “Research” section of our
website for a copy of the report. |
